The Xiaomi HyperOS update will be the biggest “since MIUI 12”

This info has been shared by Kacper Skrzypek, a Xiaomi tipster. In addition to confirming major changes are coming, he also shared one specific detail with the world.

Before we get down to it, let’s just make one thing clear. HyperOS is still based on Android, it’s just a new skin/UI for Android that will be used on Xiaomi smartphones. Xiaomi wanted to rebrand MIUI, and will make a huge revamp of the UI as part of the process. Yes, that UI will be available on all Xiaomi smartphones and tablets, globally. That much has been confirmed.

Anyhow, onto the changes. The tipster confirmed that HyperOS is referred to as MIUI 15 internally. That is not surprising, as MIUI 15 was the next step for the company, following MIUI 14.

This update will bring iOS-like lock screen editor

He also confirmed that Xiaomi is preparing an iOS-like lock screen editor for HyperOS. So, we’ll get more customization for the lock screen. That is one major feature confirmed by the tipster. He did not really delve into anything else, aside from saying that many more are coming.

It remains to be seen what will HyperOS look like. MIUI is a Swiss army knife when it comes to customization features, but it’s also quite a busy UI. Xiaomi made an effort to change that a bit, over the years, but many still see it as rather bloated.

HyperOS rebrand could be Xiaomi’s way to change that. A UI can still offer tons of features but seem quite minimalistic at the same time. It would also be nice to see a considerable reduction in the number of apps and services that come pre-installed as part of the UI.

HyperOS will debut with the Xiaomi 14 series, which is expected to arrive later this month, if the rumors are accurate. The global launch will have to wait, though.
