Xiaomi has confirmed that it’s ditching its Android skin/UI, MIUI. The company is planning to bring a new skin to replace MIUI, the Xiaomi HyperOS. This information has been shared by Xiaomi’s social media channels, its CEO, and employees.

Xiaomi HyperOS is coming to replace MIUI, on a global scale

Furthermore, Lei Jun, the company’s CEO, confirmed that the UI will debut with the Xiaomi 14 series. The Vice President of Xiaomi Global, said the same thing, while adding that it will “gradually replace MIUI”.

He also added that it will deliver “Hyper Performance, fluidity and connectivity across Smartphones x AIoT”. So, he basically confirmed that HyperOS won’t be exclusive to China. Based on all this, HyperOS will completely replace MIUI.

MIUI has been around since the inception of Xiaomi smartphones. The Xiaomi Mi 1 launched way back in 2011, and it came with MIUI 2.3 out of the box. That version of MIUI was based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

HyperOS will bring many changes to the table

Those of you who have been around since then know how much the UI has changed. Well, HyperOS won’t deliver just the change of the name, though, it will refresh the UI itself.

A tipster, Abhishek Yadav, said that “Xiaomi’s new UI Hyper OS will be completely refreshed, with no resemblance to MIUI”. He said that the info comes from “Xiaomi team members”. So it looks like Xiaomi is planning to shuffle its software cards.

MIUI has been a mixed bag over the years. It always delivered plenty of features, but not everyone liked it. At times it was buggy and not as “clean” as some users would like it. You can please everyone, though.

It will be interesting to see what will HyperOS bring to the table. Will Xiaomi go for a more minimalistic approach, or the opposite of it? We’ll have to wait to find out.
