Google‘s latest Pixel devices appear to be marred by various issues. On one hand, Pixel 8 users are complaining about poor network connectivity and heavy battery drain. On the other hand, the Pixel Watch 2 has charging problems that the company is aware of.

Pixel Watch 2 doesn’t charge reliably

Google improved a lot of things with its second-gen smartwatch. However, it moved from wireless charging to a four-pin connector which some see as a step back. The biggest problem with this is you can’t just dump the watch onto the charging pad in any orientation. The connectors must align perfectly for the watch to be charged.

Users are wary of this and are careful when placing the wearable for a charge. However, some of them have noticed that the device doesn’t charge reliably. It intermittently loses connection to the power supplier. Some others, meanwhile, report that their Pixel Watch 2 has stopped charging entirely (via Android Authority). It charged perfectly for a few days but refused to input power later.

The affected users tried various troubleshooting methods but none helped. Since the charging pins have springs that contract when the device is placed onto the pad, a faulty pin or spring may cause a problem. We have seen these kinds of problems with Fitbit devices with similar chargers in the past. However, for some users, replacing the charger didn’t work either, suggesting that there was something wrong with the watch itself.

To make matters worse, Google has handled the situation very poorly. Well, the company did replace the faulty Pixel Watch 2 for some but others have been kept waiting for a response to their complaint. Its support agents say they have heard similar complaints before and have asked users to wait for a response from the “higher-ups.” This suggests the issue is quite widespread.

Reach out to Google’s support team quickly if you have this problem

Google’s support team may not have handled the situation perfectly for everyone but that’s still the best way to get help. If your Pixel Watch 2 has similar charging problems, you should reach out to its support staff quickly. Affected users say the Google Store support agents may give you a better solution than the Pixel Watch team. The latter reportedly cannot provide an exchange if the watch is faulty. It remains to be seen how big of an issue this is and if Google releases a public statement about it.
