It’s been leaked and rumored for weeks, but now it’s official. Motorola just took the wraps off of the upcoming ThinkPhone at CES 2023, and it’s everything we imagined. Let’s take a look and see if this phone should be under your radar.
We get our first look at the ThinkPhone by Motorola at CES
So, this is a pretty bold departure from the typical Motorola phones; then again, this isn’t your typical Motorola phone. This phone is more of Lenovo’s foray into the smartphone market. While Motorola is in the name, this is technically a Lenovo-designed phone.
This phone will have a lot of power under the hood. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC (rumored erroneously had it as the SD 8 Gen 1). As for RAM and storage, the base model will come with 8GB of RAM while the upper-tier model will have 12GB. It will come with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of onboard UFS 3.1 storage.
The ThinkPhone by Motorola will sport a 6.6-inch pOLED display with an FHD+ resolution. It will have a punch-hole front and center for the selfie camera.
Speaking of cameras, this phone will sport a triple-camera setup on the rear. The main camera is a 50mp shooter with an aperture of f/1.8, a sensor size of 1/1.5 inches, and OIS. The second sensor is a 13MP ultrawide camera with a 120° field of view and an aperture of f/2.2. The last rear camera is a depth sensor. The selfie camera is a 32MP camera with an aperture of f/2.45.
The ThinkPhone shouldn’t have too much trouble making it through the day with its 5000mAh battery keeping it powered. If you need to charge it, it’ll come with a 68W charger to top it up.
Other specs include IP68 water and dust-resistance, MIL STD 810G protection, Bluetooth 5.3, and 5G. This will be a true-to-form flagship phone.
This phone will come with heavy integration with ThinkPad devices
It’s no secret that Lenovo is pushing this device as a “Think” device. It heavily associates this phone with its ThinkPad laptops. However, the company isn’t only relying on the branding. The ThinkPhone will tightly integrate with your ThinkPad device- it’s called Think 2 Think.
Instant Connect will make it so that both the phone and computer will discover each other when close and connect to the same Wi-Fi connection. File Drop will allow you to quickly drag and drop files between your devices.
With Unified Clipboard, both the ThinkPhone and ThinkPad will share the same keyboard. Anything copied on either device could be pasted using the other device. Unified Notifications will have the phone’s notification pop up on the Windows Action Center on the ThinkPad. Clicking the notification will open the corresponding app on the phone.
App Streaming will let you use your ThinkPad to interact with applications on the ThinkPhone. If you want a better webcam, then Advanced Webcam will allow you to use the ThinkPhone as a webcam.
Last, but not least, we have Instant HotSpot. This will allow you to connect your ThinkPad to your ThinkPhone’s hotspot with only one click.
Lenovo is looking to make this phone ample competition for phones from the likes of Samsung, Google, and Apple. By the looks of it, the ThinkPhone by Motorola might be one of the most powerful phones at CES.
