We’re a quarter of the way through the year, and we’ve already seen some exciting phones. Now, it’s Sony’s turn to launch a major flagship phone. In a short trailer, Sony revealed the launch date for the upcoming Xperia 1 V.

The trailer didn’t give too much information about the phone itself, and it didn’t show the device at all. What the trailer did show was the phone’s headlining feature. It should come as no surprise that the Xperia 1 V will heavily focus on the camera. In the trailer, we see a close-up view of a camera sensor.

Sony revealed the launch date for the Xperia 1 V

The most important bit of information that the trailer showed was the launch date. The company is going to hold the event on May 11th at 1:00 p.M. Japan time. If you live in the States, then you may want to pack some energy drinks. 1:00 p.M. Japan time is 12:00 midnight Eastern Standard Time.

So, we don’t have much official information about what this phone will be packing. We’re relying on leaks for the moment so you’ll want to take this information with that grain of salt.

Based on recent rumors, the Sony Xperia 1 V may rock the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and be backed up by 12GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. Some rumors even point to there being a variant with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of onboard storage. Expect that one to cost a pretty penny!

Moving on to the display, sources say that this phone will have a 4K display that runs at 120Hz. Unfortunately, this device may not have the LTPO technology that will drop the frame rate down to 1Hz when needed. That’s a very useful battery-saving feature.

Speaking of the battery, we expect this phone to rock a large 5000mAh battery. 5000mAh is rather large, but it’s going up against a large 4K display with a 120Hz refresh rate, so battery life will definitely suffer.

As for the cameras, reports say that this phone will use the Sony IMX989 1-in image sensor. This will put this phone amongst the small handful of other phones with a 1-inch sensor. Also, it may come with a periscopic zoom lens and a time-of-flight sensor.

If you’re excited to know more about this phone, mark your calendar for May 11th.
