Samsung has just announced the new Galaxy S23 series at Unpacked in San Francisco. You’ll notice that there’s not a lot that’s new on the Galaxy S23 this year, it’s another refinement year. Which is perfectly fine. Refinement is what makes a smartphone closer to perfect.
As always, there’s the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The Ultra is essentially the Note and S series combined into one device, as you might expect. So let’s start there.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra sports a 6.8-inch AMOLED QHD+ 120Hz display, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (the 512GB and 1TB storage variants do offer 12GB of RAM). There’s also a 5,000mAh capacity battery included. It also has the world’s first 200-megapixel main camera. This camera also uses laser autofocus which should make it really great at autofocusing. In addition to that, there’s also two 10-megapixel cameras that are both telephoto. Along with a 12-megapixel ultrawide which is also used for macro.
Samsung says that this year, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is more optimized for your favorite social apps. So this should, theoretically close the gap between the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone, when it comes to how social media apps work. Like Snapchat, Instagram and others. It’s also the most powerful phone ever, that’s of course thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform from Qualcomm. Which does features advanced AI machine learning, which can also make a huge deal when it comes to gaming.
Samsung is offering the Galaxy S23 Ultra (and the S23 and S23+) in four colors: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender.
Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+
Now, moving onto the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. These are also both mostly the same as the previous models. With 6.1-inch and 6.6-inch, respectively, displays that are FHD+ and 120Hz Adaptive. They also use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. Along with 8GB of RAM and start at 256GB of storage. There is also a 512GB model available. Samsung is also upping the battery capacities here, with 3,900mAh and 4,700mAh respectively.
The Galaxy S23 and S23+ also use a new 50-megapixel camera, which Samsung says will add 4x more dynamic range to your photos. That’s paired with a 12-megapixel ultrawide and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor.
