The upcoming OnePlus 12 is poised to outperform Samsung’s 2024 flagship, the Galaxy S24, in terms of display brightness and eye comfort.

One of the reasons people have favored Samsung flagships is their excellent-quality displays. However, things are changing, and the Galaxy S24 might face challenges from the OnePlus 12 at least in terms of peak brightness.

Reportedly, Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S24 series in January next year, with several competitors already featuring the latest hardware by the time of its launch. It will be interesting to see how this phone stands out among its Chinese counterparts.

Regarding the display panel, the improvements in the Galaxy S24 includes a higher peak brightness of 2500 nits, compared to the 1750 nits of the Galaxy S23 series. This upgrade applies to all models in the series, resulting in a brighter display for the Galaxy S24.

OnePlus 12 will bring even brighter display with better eye protection

Reports suggest that the OnePlus 12 will outperform the Galaxy S24 series with 2600 nits peak brightness support. Another area where the OnePlus excels is in its higher 2160Hz PWM support. In contrast, Samsung typically offers only 240Hz PWM dimming on their displays. A lower PWM causes eye strain for some users when they use the phone in low brightness.

Almost every major specification for the Galaxy S24 series is known (though leaked) at this point. An upgrade in PWM for the Galaxy would be a significant improvement, but there have been no reports or rumors on this matter yet. Therefore, it might remain at the same 240Hz as last year.

Apart from the display, both devices will run on the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform. OnePlus has also introduced some noteworthy features. According to SamMobile, the OnePlus 12 will come with an impressive 24GB of RAM. In comparison, the base variants of the Galaxy S24 series devices might only offer 8GB of RAM, as reported by Alvin on X. While the difference in performance might not be substantial, having more RAM won’t hurt.
