In September, the FCC revealed that Samsung has a new fitness tracker in the pipeline. While the American regulatory body didn’t give us many details, it showed us schematics of the device. The upcoming wearable appeared to get a massive design overhaul from the Galaxy Fit 2, the company’s last fitness tracker. Leaked renders on an alleged Galaxy Fit 3 now confirm that redesign.
Samsung’s Galaxy Fit 3 appears in leaked renders ahead of launch
Samsung launched the Galaxy Fit 2 in September 2020. The Korean firm hasn’t followed up with a new fitness tracker since then, though it releases new smartwatches every year. The fitness band market itself has declined in recent years due to customers preferring to buy low-cost smartwatches over wristbands. They may lack a robust set of health features but look better on the wrist.
It appears Samsung is aiming to kill two birds with one stone with its Galaxy Fit 3. As revealed by the FCC and confirmed by these leaked renders from Windows Report, the upcoming wearable will feature a bigger screen, making it look more like a smartwatch than a fitness band. It may not run Wear OS like the Galaxy Watches but the new Fit’s wider rectangular display is akin to many low-cost smartwatches on the market.
The Galaxy Fit 3 has a single button on the ride side along with what appears to be a microphone hole. It’s unclear whether the device features a loudspeaker, though. If it does, then it may be able to take calls. On the back, we can see the heart rate sensor and two pogo-pin connectors for charging. The FCC certification revealed that the wearable (model number SM-R390) supports 5W charging.
The leaked renders show the device in a light pink/rose color with a silicon strap similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Watch lineup. However, the strap doesn’t appear to be user-removable. Details about the Galaxy Fit 3’s operating system, health features, built-in sensors (previous Galaxy Fit models lack GPS), battery capacity, IP rating, and onboard storage (if any) are still missing.
The new Fit might cost more than the previous-gen model
We may not know the specs of the upcoming Samsung fitness tracker but it does appear to be more expensive than the previous-gen model (priced at $59), primarily because of a bigger screen. The Korean firm may be looking to take on the likes of Fitbit Charge 6, which currently costs $100. More details about the Galaxy Fit 3 should arrive closer to its launch. Samsung might unveil it at its next Galaxy Unpacked event in January 2024.
