According to a new rumor, Huawei is planning to launch a new flip phone foldable with upgraded cover display, and more. This device will be a successor to the Huawei Pocket S, not the Huawei P50 Pocket.
Huawei is seemingly planning to release a new flip phone foldable
The Huawei P50 Pocket was the company’s flagship-grade clamshell foldable, while the Pocket S was a more budget-oriented device. Having said that, this info comes from a Chinese tipster.
He claims that the new phone will not only deliver an upgraded secondary display, but that it will also be lighter than its predecessor, and offer 5G support.
We’re not sure what he means by “upgraded secondary display”, but we’re guessing it will be larger than it was on the Pocket S. Also, the 5G connectivity may seem odd to you for a Huawei phone, due to US sanctions, but Huawei found a way.
The Kirin 9000s will likely fuel the device
The company actually launched its Kirin 9000s processor, which fuels the Mate 60 lineup, and also the Mate X5. Chances are that the company will use that chip to fuel this clamshell foldable too. That processor supports 5G, and Huawei seemingly managed to avoid all sanctions to make it happen.
We don’t have much info about this phone, but chances are it will have a centered display camera hole, on the main display. We’re not sure how much larger the cover panel will be, but the one on the Pocket S was truly tiny (1.04 inches).
The Huawei Pocket S arrived in November last year
The Pocket S launched in November last year with the Snapdragon 778G SoC. That phone also had a 6.9-inch main display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It offers 8GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage.
A 4,000mAh battery was included, along with 40W wired charging support. The phone was equipped with a 40-megapixel main camera, and a 13-megapixel ultrawide unit. It also shipped with a side-facing fingerprint scanner.
If this rumor is accurate, chances are we’ll hear more about the device in the near future, so stay tuned.
