The HTC Desire 20 Pro will launch on June 16th, 2020, and this isn’t just a rumor. A banner image on HTC’s official Taiwanese forum confirms the launch date for the upcoming mid-range smartphone. “Save The Date. 2020. 06. 16,” says the banner, which also contains a couple of silhouettes of the phone.
The images poorly show the smartphone’s vertically-stacked rear camera setup and the punch-hole selfie camera.
The smartphone seemingly has rounded corners and curved edges. The overall design is in line with a schematic that leaked back in April. The leaked schematic had also revealed a capacitive fingerprint sensor on the back.
HTC Desire 20 Pro launch date confirmed
The HTC Desire 20 Pro has been picking up the necessary certifications pretty rapidly over the past few weeks. The Google Play Console and Wi-Fi Alliance listings last week was followed by the Bluetooth SIG certifications earlier this week. This all suggested an imminent launch and that appears to be exactly the case.
Although the company has yet to officially announce the launch date, it’s now certain that the phone will become official next week, on June 16, at least in Taiwan. There’s no word yet on its pricing and international availability.
However, we do know quite a lot about the handset’s specs, thanks to various certification listings and leaks. The HTC Desire 20 Pro features a 6.5-inch LCD display with Full HD+ (1080 by 2340) resolution and a screen density of 400 PPI.
Under the hood is a Snapdragon 665 chipset, accompanied by Adreno 610 GPU. The handset also gets 6GB of RAM. No details regarding its internal storage capacity are available as of now.
Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi are also a part of the package. Rumors are that the phone will get a 3.5mm headphone jack as well, although it’s not yet confirmed.
The elongated camera setup on the back houses a total of four sensors, detailed specs of which are not known yet. There’s also an LED flash sitting on the side of the camera housing on the top left corner of the device’s back panel.
The HTC Desire 20 Pro is the Taiwanese company’s first smartphone with a punch-hole display. It is also the first-ever HTC phone to run Android 10 out of the box. This mid-range smartphone is expected to have a slim profile and a premium look.
However, with HTC’s shares in the smartphone market in a continued downward spiral, the company might find it hard to move units off the shelves.
The handset’s pricing will play a pivotal role in how it fares in the market. As for its launch, expect HTC to make an announcement soon.
