The HP Dragonfly Chromebook Pro looks like it’s designed for gamers, but it’s not

When it comes to Chromebooks, you don’t really expect the most powerful specs on the market. However, HP was able to impress on several fronts. For starters, this computer has a decently-sized 14-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2,560-by-1,600. With this, you’ll be able to watch sharp 2K content. Also, this display is rated to have a peak brightness of 1,200 nits.

Moving onto the internals, HP was able to fit this computer with some serious horsepower. It’s using the 12th-gen Intel Core i5 CPU that’s accompanied by Intel UHD graphics. This is all backed up by 16GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. That’s more than enough to run ChromeOS smoothly and get a lot of work done.

As for ports, the average user might be a bit disappointed. Instead of the usual array of ports like HDMI, USB-A, USB-C, etc., you get four USB-C ports and that’s it. This means that if you want to have the full experience, you might need a dongle or two.

What’s perhaps the most notable and confusing aspect of this computer is the RGB keyboard. When you see it, you’d instantly get the impression that this is a gamer computer, but it’s actually not. HP didn’t build this laptop for the gamer market, nor is it marketing it as such.

It’s a consumer laptop through and through. In fact, it’s the first consumer Chromebook to sport an RGB keyboard. So, this is the kind of computer you’ll take to work with you at the office with the added benefit of some pretty lights.

Right now, we don’t know how much this computer will cost. Since it’s marketed to the average consumer, we don’t expect it to cost too much, but only time will tell.
