One of the more unique features of the Motorola Razr+ is the fact that you can have full-page widgets and open full apps on the external display. Motorola has added a feature that they call “Panels”, giving us full-page widgets onto that screen. However, they are limited right now, as you might expect. But they are customizable.

So today, in this tutorial, we’re going to show you how you can customize the panels on the external display of the Motorola Razr+.

How to customize Panels on Motorola Razr+

To edit the list of panels and order, you’ll need to open the Razr+ and use the main display.

Now, open the Settings app.

From there, scroll down to External Display and tap on that.

Next, tap on Panels.

From here, you are able to drag and drop the order at the top. As well as toggle which panels you want to use on your Razr+ external display.

There is a limit of Panels you can use. There’s only enough room for six. So you’ll need to remove some to add others you might want.

Once you’re done, just exit the Settings app and it’ll automatically be saved.

What Panels are available?

As of right now, there are only eight Panels available. These include:

  • Apps
  • Calendar
  • Contacts
  • Games
  • Google Fit
  • Google News
  • Spotify
  • Weather

These are all stock apps, along with Spotify (which is pre-installed on the Razr+, so technically it’s a stock app too). There could be more added later, depending on user feedback and who wants to work with Motorola to make it happen.

Why is there a limit for Panels?

You might be wondering why there’s a limit for the number of Panels you can add? While we don’t know for sure, it’s likely due to the launcher on the External Display. When you unlock your Razr+ without opening it, you’ll see a launcher there. This shows you the time, date, weather and shortcuts for each Panel. A lot like a traditional home screen. There’s only room for six shortcuts there, so that might be the reason why.

However, with there only being eight options anyways, six seems like an okay limitation for the External Display.

How to customize individual Panels

Some Panels you can also customize individually. The really only two that you can customize are the Apps and Contacts Panels. To edit these, do the following:

  • Swipe over to the Panel you want to edit.
  • Tap on the Pencil icon in the top right corner.
  • Now, tap on the Apps or Contacts that you want to add.
  • Then tap on the checkmark to save it.
  • And that’s how you can edit those panels.

For the apps and contacts panels, there don’t seem to be any limits on how many can be added to the Panel. Which is good to see, especially since it is just a scrolling list of 3×2 apps and/or contacts.

And that’s how you can customize the Panels on the Motorola Razr+’s external display.
