Google just announced the Pixel Tablet, and this is going to be one of the most exciting devices of the Year. However, it’s not as important how good it is now; it’s important how it will be a couple of years down the road. How many software updates is Google going to give the Pixel Tablet? Well, the answer might not surprise you.
In case you didn’t know, Google I/O is going on now, and Android Headlines has coverage of this tablet along with the Pixel 7a and the Pixel Fold. Be sure to check out the site if you are curious about these other devices.
How many software updates will the Pixel Tablet get?
Not too long ago, Google changed its update strategy. It promises that new Pixel devices will get five years of security patches and three major platform updates. That’s decent, and it’s definitely better than some other Android manufacturers. However, it’s pretty weak compared to what Samsung is doing and minuscule compared to what Apple is doing.
In any case, that’s Google’s strategy. In the case of the Pixel Tablet, nothing’s changed. The Pixel Tablet will launch with Android 13 out of the box. This means that it will be supported up until Android 16.
After that, the tablet will receive two additional years of security patches before it eventually loses support. This means that the Pixel Tablet might be receiving its final updates in 2028. That seems like a long time away, and we have no idea what kind of chip technology we will have at that point.
As for Pixel Tablet’s specs, it has a 10.95-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. It uses Google’s very own Tensor G2 chip which is the same chip that powers the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. That’s backed up by 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB/256GB of onboard storage.
It has an 8-megapixel camera on the front and one on the back. They’re not expected to be stellar, but you still have several of the camera features that you find on Pixel phones.
The Pixel Tablet cost $499 with the included charging dock. You can put in your pre-order today. Click here if you want to learn how to place your pre-order.
