Google Messages Profile discovery feature is now rolling out to users

You can now set your image and name on your Google Message RCS account with the new Profile discovery feature. This feature is just becoming available for usage to some users of the messaging service for Google that rivals Apple’s iMessage. At the moment, this feature is still rolling out, so not everyone has access to it.

This feature known as Profile Discovery does exactly what its name states to help you set up your profile. At the moment, users of the Google Messages RCS messaging service don’t have profiles, as they just text each other using their phone numbers.

But with this new feature, users will be able to add their profile picture and name for their contacts to see. This will make chatting with others more fun as they will be able to identify the user from their phone number or email address. Not only will this be available on RCS Messages but across all other Google products and services.

Profile discovery is rolling out to reimagine the Google RCS Messaging ecosystem

Currently, some Google products have the user’s profile photo as well as their name. But ever since it became available for usage, RCS has not had the user’s profile picture and name. Instead, it relies on the name and profile picture that others use when saving the person’s number.

All of that is coming to an end as Google is preparing to roll out profile discovery to RCS Messages. Google might also make it possible to notify other users on your contact list whenever you update your profile image. Once available, users will be able to access and customize their name and profile picture from the RCS settings.

It’ll sit under the “Advanced” setting option, accessible from the profile icon at the top right-hand side of the screen. The Profile discovery option will sit at the top of the Advanced Settings page once it’s more widely available. Tapping on this will pull up the setup page, where users can choose to turn on or off the Discovery feature.

Users can stick to the profile image on their Google account or opt to change it. The other Google products that’ll also make use of this feature are not yet known, but users can expect it to be other core Google services.
