Samsung isn’t just unveiling the Galaxy S24 series early, it’s bringing the new phones to the market quicker too. According to the Korean media, the next-gen Galaxy flagships will go official on January 17 with pre-orders starting immediately after the launch event in San Jose, USA. The market release of the devices will take place on January 30.

Galaxy S24 release scheduled for late January 2024

We have long known that Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy S24 series earlier than the Galaxy S23. The company has zeroed in on the date of January 17, which is two weeks before the February 1 launch of the 2023 lineup. As expected, it’s a Wednesday. The Korean firm has mostly hosted its major Galaxy Unpacked events on Wednesdays, including the Galaxy S23 launch.

Usually, Samsung opens general sales of new flagships on the third Friday following the launch event (February 17 for the Galaxy S23 series). However, next year, the Galaxy S24 lineup will reportedly go on sale on January 30, which falls on a Tuesday. If the company maintained the same gap, the market release of the 2024 flagships would have taken place on February 2.

Following the January 17 launch, Samsung will open pre-orders for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra in most countries, including the US (from January 19 in Korea). It plans to deliver and activate pre-order units between January 26 and January 30. “We decided to announce the Galaxy S24 series in San Jose, USA on the 17th local time,” The Elec quotes a Samsung official. “Sales will also begin immediately.”

Samsung has high hopes for its next-gen flagships

Reports say that Samsung is launching the Galaxy S24 series early to compete with Apple. Since the iPhone 15 series doesn’t have fresh competition in the market, the Korean firm wants to capitalize on that. An early release may be part of this strategy too. The company has even chosen San Jose as the location for the event because that is where Apple has its headquarters. It previously held the event in San Francisco.

Samsung is expecting the Galaxy S24 sales to increase at least ten percent over the Galaxy S23. The latest flagships are projected to cross 31 million annual shipments, so the target for the 2024 lineup is around 35 million units. Time will tell if the Korean behemoth manages to do that with an early release of the phones. More details about the Galaxy S24 trio should surface in the coming weeks.
