TCL has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update to the BlackBerry KEYone, and it seems like Canada is first in line to get it. The update had already started rolling out to Canadian KEYone devices, according to the info provided to MobileSyrup, and it is rolling to both unlocked and carrier-locked devices, in case you were wondering, at least when it comes to Canada.
The BlackBerry KEYone will notify you once the update is available on your device, but you can always head to settings and check manually, if you’d like. That being said, this update will probably hit other countries in the near future, but for the time being, it’s exclusive to Canada. The BlackBerry KEYone was originally announced back in February last year, and it launched with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, with BlackBerry’s launcher on top of it. Well, the Android 8.0 Oreo update will bring a number of new features and changes to the device, including the Picture-in-Picture mode, some rather subtle design changes, new battery optimizations, and so on, basically all the changes that are rolling out with stock Android 8.0 Oreo will be available on the BlackBerry KEYone, excluding those Pixel-exclusive ones, of course. Some BlackBerry apps and services will be a part of the offering still, though, as expected, such as the BlackBerry Hub, for example.
The BlackBerry KEYone is a predecessor to the BlackBerry KEY2 which got introduced earlier this year. The KEYone comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, while it sports that rubberized back in order not to slip around in-hand. The phone features a 4.5-inch 1620 x 1080 display, 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB of storage.
