Samsung continues to set the smartwatch standard for Android users

Samsung has kept a strong lead in the smartwatch market for Android users and that continues this year as the Galaxy Watch 5 is the best smartwatch of 2022. Outshining even new competitors by providing the same solid experience of past devices, while making incremental improvements that shies away from fixing anything that isn’t broken.

With the Galaxy Watch 5, a big step forward was the improved battery life. The watch can now get up to 50 hours on a single charge. Taking you through almost an entire two days. It can also get up to 45% battery recharged within just 30 minutes. So even if you do need to juice it back up a bit, it shouldn’t take long.

In addition to the improved battery life, the Galaxy Watch 5 also comes with Wear OS powered by Samsung’s One UI Watch 4.5. Now this isn’t necessarily an improvement since the Galaxy Watch 4 series was updated to this. But it is nice that it came on the watch out of the box.

The Galaxy Watch 5 is Samsung’s most durable smartwatch yet

We love the battery life improvements Samsung made to the watch but it was also important that the watch was made more durable. It’s a lot easier than you think to accidentally smack the watch screen up against things. Or have it scrape against walls and the like. That’s less of an issue with the Galaxy Watch 5 thanks to its sapphire crystal glass screen.

This is 1.6 times stronger than the screen on the Galaxy Watch 4. And it’s an improvement that is bound to help a lot of users. At the very least it’ll give users peace of mind that it won’t get scuffed up as much, if at all. Of course, this isn’t going to be the most important thing for everyone. But trust us when we say you will definitely appreciate the improved durability.

Back on the functional side of things, the sensors also work better. Samsung smoothed out the frame a bit. More specifically it softened the curves so that the sensors make better contact with your wrist. Which in turns is going to help them perform more optimally than before.

Throw in a few solid extras like a wide collection of watch faces, and a decent selection of straps, and you’ve got a winner here. It also doesn’t hurt that the Galaxy Watch 5 is available starting at $279.99. It’s a decent price for all that you’re getting, and not too much different from the competition in many respects.

There’s more to love about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, but these are the main reasons we gave it the award for best smartwatch of 2022.
