Given that some phone Black Friday sales promotions occur ahead of November 24 this year, you could be forgiven for wondering what is so special about the day itself. Simply put, purchasing a phone that’s part of a Black Friday offer will usually mean obtaining substantial savings. This is the case whether you choose to wait for Black Friday itself, when the competition between sellers is at its fiercest, or before.
In other words, if you want the chance to pay the lowest price for a new phone, then you could wait until Black Friday and get an incredible bargain. However, if your preferred model has already sold out, then you’ll have to settle for something else. Therefore, if you see a phone that you like the look of at a price you think is attractive, then go for it. There is no guarantee the asking price will drop any lower on Black Friday itself.

Apple’s iPhone 15 has been out long enough for it to feature in some sales promotions already. The 150GB version, for example, is already on offer with Three. On a monthly tariff with that network, you could save well over £150 compared to the usual price. Deals start from £34 a month but there are other networks which also offer top-quality iPhone 15 deals. Carphone Warehouse, for example, has discounted the top-of-the-range iPhone 15 Pro Max for Black Friday in 2023 on 24-month contracts with iD as the network provider. Throwing in several months of Apple TV+ and Apple Music, their deals start from under £66 per month for a truly top-end phone.
Sony Xperia 1 IV
The first smartphone to offer continuous zoom functionality, the Xperia 1 IV typically retails in the UK for well over £1,100. However, during Black Friday, you can expect its price to plummet – temporarily, at least. O2 currently promotes this particular model with 256GB of memory as one of its Black Friday deals. If you were to opt for it now, then you could save as much as £500 depending on which tariff you were to take up. Ideal if you are after a 5G-ready device that has been designed with gamers and video content creators in mind, the Xperia 1 IV also features 4K HDR 120fps functions on all three of its impressive lenses.
Google Pixel 8 Pro
It is possible to save up to £320 on a new Google Pixel Pro 8 with a qualifying trade-in of your current phone. Three offers this in its stores and online as well as a similar, if less eye-catching deal, for the standard Pixel 8. At the moment, Google’s own online store only has an £8 saving on offer for customers who buy a case with their Pixel Pro 8. However, the countdown is on for further tempting reductions closer to Black Friday so this is a website worth heading back to on the day itself.
Samsung Galaxy S23+
Samsung currently lists the Galaxy S23+ at £1,049 for the 256GB model and at £1,149 for the 512GB model. Buyers can also turn to Samsung directly for a trade-in discount of up to £450 depending on the state of the current phone. Even better, for Black Friday, the tech giant is offering a free gift for all new purchases, a set of Galaxy Buds FE. Note that EE currently offer the 256GB version of the S23+ at £1,031 if you choose to buy it outright subject to a monthly device cost of a few pounds depending on whether your contract runs for 24 or 36 months. Further reductions are certainly possible closer to the sales event, but there’s no guarantee that either the retailer or the manufacturer will choose to promote this popular model.
Check and re-check mobile phone pricing before making your Black Friday purchase. Although a deal may look attractive, you must check how long you’d be tied into a contract for and whether additional fees apply for things like deliveries. Sales promotions can move fast over the course of Black Friday so if you want to buy a new phone it can be worth holding on until the day comes around even if some deals in the run-up look good.
