This new gaming monitor from ASUS has a really neat trick

During CES this week ASUS announced a few new gaming monitors, including the ROG Swift Pro PG248QP. A gaming monitor with a cool trick that caters to professional and competitive gamers. In addition, ASUS also revealed the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM, and the ROG Swift PG32UQXR. All three monitors offer something unique and have their own reasons for being notable.

Take the ROG Swift PG32UQXR for example. This is ASUS’s first gaming monitor with DisplayPort 2.1. That matters if you have a bleeding edge gaming PC and you want to take full advantage of next-gen graphics. But more importantly the monitor delivers more bandwidth (nearly triple the real-world data rate of DisplayPort 1.4 ASUS says). The monitor also features HDMI 2.1, and there’s two open ports for each. Making this perfect for not only bleeding edge gaming PCs, but the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

This is a 32-inch flat panel with 4K resolution and a 160Hz refresh rate. And because of the DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 support, you can actually get those frame rates in 4K. For those that want a higher refresh rate, there’s the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM. With this being an OLED panel it’ll deliver rich contrast and vivid colors. And it comes with a 240Hz refresh rate with a 1440p resolution.

Perhaps more interestingly though is that the monitor comes with a built-in heatsink. Designed to move heat away from the panel to avoid burn-in over time and prolong the monitor’s lifespan. Need an even higher refresh rate though? ASUS has you covered.

The ROG Swift Pro PG248QP has blazing fast 540Hz refresh rate

For the truly neck breaking speeds, enter the ROG Swift Pro PG248QP. ASUS basically took the original specs of its 500Hz monitor that it announced last year and overclocked the panel to run at 540Hz. The display size is 24.1-inches and it comes with a Full HD resolution. The trick though, lies with the stand.

It sits on a unique base that features two movable feet. These can be pushed inward if you want more desk space for your keyboard and mouse. ASUS says the intention here is to allow gamers to get a little closer to the monitor for enhanced focus. Or you can leave the feet in their popped out position, and lock them in place for better support.

It’s an interesting idea that might do well with gamers who play at an exceedingly high level. Though it also serves the function of providing that little bit of extra room for smaller surfaces. ASUS hasn’t officially announced pricing or availability for these monitors yet. But we wouldn’t be surprised if they were still a few months away.
