A new rumor states ASUS is planning to launch the ROG Phone 7 towards the end of this year, according to a report from The Tech Outlook, citing Paras Guglani on Twitter. When you think about it though, that shouldn’t really be surprising. Nothing is certain, of course. But for the last several years now, ASUS has shipped a new ROG Phone device every single year.
And if the company was to continue following its trends, then consumers could probably expect a new ROG Phone device in 2023 as well. When is another matter entirely though. And that’s where the rumor sheds a little more light on things. Keep in mind that a rumor is still just a rumor. And with it being this early in the year, there’s plenty of time for things to change.
Rumor says the ROG Phone 7 will launch sometime in Q3 of 2023
If the timing of the launch is accurate, then it’s possible we could see the phone arriving around the same time the ROG Phone 6 did last year. ASUS launched the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro globally on July 5. Now the rumor doesn’t mention a specific date. It merely says “sometime in Q3.” But July 5 would be within the Q3 timeframe. Albeit very early on.
In addition to the launch window, the rumor also mentions that ASUS will launch three models of the device. The ROG Phone 7, ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, and ROG Phone 7D. Worth noting is that the ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate are both listed as global releases, whereas the 7D is listed as a China-only release.
When it comes to specs, Guglani doesn’t mention everything. But he does highlight a few key specs such as storage, RAM, and chipset. Both the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate versions will supposedly come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Which is to be expected given ASUS always uses the flagship chipset from Qualcomm. At least in its standard and pro model gaming phones. The chipset for the ROG Phone 7D isn’t listed, but it’s likely to come with a new MediaTek chip like last year’s ROG Phone 6D.
The phones are also rumored to have 16GB of RAM, and come with either 256GB (ROG Phone 7) or 512GB (ROG Phone 7 Ultimate) of internal storage. Additionally, the phone will come with Android 13 and use an AMOLED panel.
