Sony has begun rolling out the Android 13 update to the Xperia 10 IV, its cheapest phone of last year. The mid-range device follows the likes of the Xperia 1 IV, Xperia 5 IV, Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III, and Xperia Pro-I in making the jump to the new Android version. The latter devices received the big Android update over the past couple of months.
The Android 13 update for the Sony Xperia 10 IV is currently rolling out to the dual-SIM variant (model number XQ-CC72) in some Asian countries. The build number of the new firmware package for the phone is 65.1.A.4.8 (via). The Japanese tech behemoth should expand this release to more markets in the coming days, though we don’t have any timeline as such. This phone wasn’t officially released in the US.
This update brings plenty of goodies to the Sony Xperia 10 IV. After all, it’s a major Android release. We have several new features, changes, and improvements throughout the system. Along with those goodies, the device is also getting the December 2022 Android security patch. Last month’s security release contains several dozen vulnerability fixes, including some critical ones that allowed remote code execution. Google has already released the January 2023 security patch with dozens more vulnerability fixes, but this Sony phone isn’t picking that up just yet.
Sony updates the Xperia 10 IV to Android 13
Sony isn’t known for fast Android updates. The company launches only a handful of smartphones every year and takes months to update those to the latest Android version. The Japanese firm began the Android 13 rollout in November, starting with the latest flagships Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 5 IV. In December, it updated a few more devices to the new Android version, including its 2021 flagships. The Xperia 10 IV is now joining the party.
If you’re using this Sony mid-ranger from 2022, Android 13 should be available to you very soon. You will get a notification for the OTA (over the air) update once it is available. Simply tap the notification and follow the on-screen instructions to install the new Android version. You can also manually check for updates from the Software update section in the Settings app on your phone. It’s a safe practice to back up your important data before installing big Android updates. In case things go wrong, you will not lose your data. Also, make sure to charge your Sony Xperia 10 IV to at least 60 percent before you proceed with the updating process.
